Musing from my saddle fit appointment...
I'm becoming more and more aware of how dynamic saddle fitting is.
It's not merely fitting a piece of equipment between a horse and rider. Just because you're a size 8 shoe doesn't mean all size 8s fit the same, you know what I mean?
If our horses are given permission to share how they feel, we become aware of the slight nuances a piece of equipment can have on their overall demeanor and way of going.
Horses, like us, have preference. This is where the science of saddle fitting becomes art, I think. It's subjective to both horse and rider. And harmony can only be achieved if both are validated and affirmed.
If that wasn't tough enough, the saddle also needs to fit the rider. The more I think about it the more it's a miracle saddles can even fit both horse and rider. Each riders body is different, their femur length, hip width, and weight all vary. Finding a saddle that matches us is almost as tricky as finding one to fit our horses.
Finding one that fits BOTH seems like a downright miracle at times.
Appreciate your saddle fitters yo! They've got way more to balance than just fit and feel.
